What Are Your Views on Botox?

6:00 AM

I've been browsing the Internet lately whether it be catching up on the newest beauty trends, Pinterest, etc. I came across Botox, for some that's a pretty scary word but Botox isn't just for what you think. Instead of Botox being a scary thought or an expensive way to prevent you from looking older, is it possible for Botox to be a benefit for other problems too? The answer is yes!

Many people do not know that Botox isn't just used as an injection for wrinkles or fine lines, its also used for other treatments like excessive sweating, neck spasms, over active bladder, some causes of crossed eyes, and also can help prevent chronic migraines in some people.

In this post I wanted to share with you how Botox is given in these certain situations, what exactly Botox is, and whether its something you should think twice about.

Botox was introduced into the world in the late 1980s by ophthalmologists, who began using it to treat optic muscle disorders. Botox injections are known of a group of medications. Botox is primarily used as most of us already know, for the ability to reduce the appearance of some facial wrinkles. Botox injections block chemical signals from nerves, mostly signals that cause muscles to contract. The toxin is produced by the microbe that causes botulism, a type of food poisoning.

In 2002, Botox cosmetic receives FDA approval for use on frown lines. It then is eventually injected into 23 million faces and becomes the most popular non surgical cosmetic procedure of the decade. The cost of Botox can range anywhere from $125 to $400 per treatment area.

Botox is treated for a variety of other conditions including:
-Severe Underarm Sweating: a proven treatment option for people who sweat excessively. Treatments can last for 6 to 7 months. Injections temporarily block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. 57 out of 104 patients treated with Botox achieved a greater than 50% reduction in sweating. Side effects do exist with these treatments.

-Chronic Migraines: is only treated in adults with chronic migraine who have had 15 or more days each month with a headache lasting 4 or more hours each day in people 18 or older. Injections to 7 key areas of the neck and head very fine needles are used for 31 total injections.

-Crossed Eyes: injection sites are done directly into the affected eye muscles. And with each procedure there are side effects.

Some insurance does cover Botox if its necessary. If you have one of these problems I would look into it to see if this could possibly help you. I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Let me know if you have considered Botox or if you have had medical Botox and how it has helped in your everyday life.
