How to Organize Your Closet

7:30 AM

Hey everyone! I just wanted to update you on why there haven't been more blog posts the past couple months and that's due to the newest addition to the family, a English Bulldog puppy named Oliver!!! I just wanted to let you guys know what I have been up to recently and yep that's where I've been and if any of you are dog owners or have gotten a puppy, you know how much time and energy it takes to train and take care of them but with that said lets get onto the stuff you came for!

So we all have our junk areas in our room. If your anyone like me that's definitely my closet! I toss and throw things everywhere inside my closet which in the long run makes it super hard for me to find anything I want to wear, I literally have to dig out my entire closet to find that one top or that certain pair of pants to wear. Yes I know Story of my life! I found some super helpful tips inside a magazine I was reading and I thought this would be great to share with my lovely readers as well.

Tip #1 Try the easiest, cheapest closet makeover.

Ditch your plastic motley hangers for slim velvet ones in a light neutral color (it shows off clothes best). Group your clothes by type--dresses, skirts, and so on--and then of course by color, being sure to move left to right from lightest to darkest. That's how our eyes work; it's a visual merchandising trick that many stores use.

Tip #2 Never double up on hangers.

If your like me and are short on space (I have a small corner closet, so literally I have no space). Use multibar hangers for your lightest items, like slim skirts. Hang pants lengthwise from the cuffs. Clip maxidresses and other thick/voluminous pieces in half with a wooden laundry peg before hanging.

Tip #3 Fold, divide, and conquer

It's perfectly fine to hang thing cashmere sweaters; store embellished items in natural-fiber bags to protect them from snagging. Some things, like T-shirts, workout clothes, and bulky sweaters are easier to store folded. Purchase some of those clothing shelf dividers it makes the stacks of folded clothes look neat and organized and also saves lots of time. (I will be sure to link some below). Pick up some folding boards as well. Fold the sweater around the board--leaving it in there--and it will keep the stack flat and neat. You only need to use one for every three to four sweaters.

Tip #4 Don't forget those empty walls!

Tip #4 Don't forget those empty walls!
Belt racks, hooks, and turn blank walls into storage. Valet bars are great for this purpose, they fit in unused nooks and on the inside of closet doors, and they are great for styling an outfit or hanging dry cleaning. Save the tall, deep corners for seasonal things. This works best if you use clear storage containers which are labeled with the contents to decide. It also makes it easier to see things in even the most hard to reach places.

I hope these tips help help you get organized because it will save time and all the anxiety a messy closet can cause. This magazine article has certainly motivated me to get organized because like I said before, I am guilty of a messy closet.
